Talking shit about Gemini + Sagittarius ♊♐
I talk about Geminis a lot because I am one (not fair), but I totally neglect Sagittariuses, our opposite sign. When I write horoscopes, Sagittarius is often the last one I do. I’m sorry, centaurs.
I have no idea why this is! I like both of these signs. Together they form the axis of education, communication, and public discourse, and I’m really into all of those things.
Note: Each sign and its opposite forms an axis that represents a different dimension of human life. I can talk more about this in future issues—and in a book—if you want.
Maybe I’m just taking them for granted—which is typical for these signs.
Gemini-Sag culture is all about ideas, exploration, and openness. They are immature—but who cares, because they are geniuses. They are creative but not snobby. Down for whatever. Low maintenance and high energy. They are manic and pixie and dreamy. They are promiscuous because they are intellectually promiscuous, and sex is just more data. They fuck with rules because they’re curious to know what happens if they break. Life is a narrative and they need spoilers. They will challenge you to a push-up contest and laugh when they lose. They brag all the time because real humility means you’re not too good for your ego. They aren’t too good for anything, because being too good for things means you miss out. They are not here to miss out.
The unsaid implicit theme, though is ownership. Who owns the resources that power all this fun exploration? Gemini-Sag seem non-materialistic because they hide in the ambiguity and disorganization of collective ownership. That's why they prefer ideas over property—it’s not as easily divided and accounted for. They like to share! Which means they will take whatever they need and not keep track.
In other words, they are just free spirits who are entirely financially dependent on others.
The signs that deal explicitly with possession and money are Taurus and Scorpio (hey, scorpions, it’s your season! ♏), and they have a reputation for wanting things. They are jealous, possessive, acquisitive, and retentive.
But Taurus-Scorpio know and respect the value of what they own. Gemini-Sag do not. As a result, they are both easy to exploit and exploitative themselves. Gemini-Sag have no idea how much it costs others to finance their exciting life of not necessarily producing anything of value, and therefore cannot be grateful or appreciative of what others give them—or even of others’ good work—in the right proportion.
It’s easy to feel generous when nothing is yours.
Here’s a little rant I wrote to myself that taps into the sentiment behind this point about Gemini-Sag:
It doesn't make you smart or brave to go get hurt just so you can learn some esoteric lesson about someone or something you knew you should have avoided in the first place. It's wasteful. And it's not always just your time and efforts you're wasting. You don't need a Ph.D. in how to argue against one dumb psychopath in the world; you're needed elsewhere, and by indulging your momentary, unproductive pet fascinations, you're delaying the useful application of your talents to real problems in your life. There are infinite distractions if you want them, and you don't need to trip on the ones who excite you because they are unusual. Weirdness or eccentricity by itself does not make something worth your time.
I know it’s not fair to scold all the Geminis and Sagittariuses in the world for my own shortcomings, but here we are. Another unfair Gemini.
November horoscopes
I have not forgotten, and they are coming soon for all you paid subscribers! The good news is, nothing even happens the first few days of the month. (That’s not true, but I just said it anyway. What a little rascal!) Anyway, to make up for it, I’m going to preview a little bit of December, too… 🎅
